Christmas Tidbits

I’ve been trying to come up with a blog post for the past few days, and all I can say is, I got nothin’. So here’s a random list of the Christmas things I’ve been doing/thinking about.

1. Racing to finish this round of edits on Bob so I can get him off to ANOTHER beta reader (thank you, Kelly!) before we leave for Kaysville next week. I realize said beta probably won’t get to him until after the holidays, but I’ll feel much better over the Christmas break if he’s out of my hands.

2. Writing a letter to my soon-to-be brother-in-law. We do a sibling gift exchange in Honey Bear’s family (he’s the oldest of six, and by the end of this month, half of them will be married), but this year, my mother-in-law had the awesome idea of writing letters to each other. I drew the soon-to-be brother-in-law's name out of the hat, which is arguably the hardest one since we don’t know him as well as we know everyone else, but I’m up for the challenge. How hard can it be to write a nice letter to someone who has a lovely singing voice? :)

3. Gloating about Honey Bear’s Christmas gift. I’m really excited about it, and he has no idea what it is. He usually figures it out, so this is exciting. (Maybe someone should get me a thesaurus for Christmas…) Honey Bear was home when the FedEx man delivered it, and I was kind of afraid the box would give it away, but he’s still clueless. Fantastic:)

4. Looking around my house and thinking, “You know, I really should clean you before we go out of town.” But I haven’t. I think I need to get pregnant again. When I was pregnant with Lady, my nesting instinct set in so bad that our house was spotless, SPOTLESS, for months. Ah, the days.

5. Singing in the ward choir for the Christmas program this Sunday. (We’re doing it a week early since so many people are going out of town.) We’re not very good. I hope a few angels show up to sing with us:)

What about you? How are your holiday plans shaping up?

P.S. If you haven't already, check out Kathleen Ortiz's TCUHBIP contest. Today she's giving away a Tor prize pack filled with fabulous last-minute Christmas gifts for the readers in your life books. Good luck!

  1. Happy Holidays to you! and it's nice to hear what Bob's doing these days. And cool--I didn't know you sang in a choir. :o)

  2. My holiday plans are shaping up well--if by well, I mean emptying out my wallet to buy my enormous family presents!! On the serious side, I'm just looking forward to the extended vacation from work. I need those 2 weeks to relax and regroup. :)

  3. I'm singing with the choir on Sunday and, due to some difficulties with the pianist, we have only practiced the songs once. We aren't very good either.

And I'm having the hardest time coming up with blogs too right now. Good luck with the revision and let me know if you need someone else to read it.

  4. I've got 2 family weddings interspersed with the Christmas preps.

  5. Carol, I once mentioned in passing to a coworker that I taught music to the little kids at my church, and her first response was "You sing, too?" (I was teaching computers at a middle school at the time, so I guess it didn't really fit her impression of me.) My first response was "Doesn't everyone?" I guess when you just sing in church every week, you get used to singing, whether you actually have any talent at it or not:)

Pam, sorry about the lightening in your wallet, but yay for a two-week vacation!

Jeni, I hope angels come to visit your sacrament meeting, too:) And thanks for offering to read Bob. I just might take you up on that.

Wow, lotusgirl, two weddings? And I thought we had it bad... (Although the wedding we're going to is in Logan, Utah, which means there's a pretty good chance we'll all die in Sardine Canyon if it's snowing at all. Oh, well. Wedding guests have to jump to the front of the heaven line, right? :) )

  7. Shari, I thought it was a great idea, too. Actually, my mother-in-law's pretty good at great ideas:)

  8. *Sigh* I wish I had an amazing gift for my husband. Ugh. I'm glad for you, though, and I hope he loves it and the surprise keeps until Christmas. :)

I'm having a hard time with blog posts too. Maybe my pregnancy brain is rubbing off on my friends. ;) Oh, and btw, though I am cleaning, my house is not spotless. It's more cluttered than ever, but underneath the clutter, it's clean. Go figure!

  9. My husband knows exactly what he's getting, or at least he thinks he does. ;)

I love the letter idea. With the economy the way it is, that's a great way to give without going beyond the budget.

My house is terrible, but I only have two more days until Christmas break. Yay!

  10. Amy, disinfected is always better than de-cluttered, anyway:)

Myrna, ha! I hope Ben reads this comment... (And woohoo for Christmas break! I'm sure you need it more than your students do:) )

  11. The letter idea is very cool.

I'm extremely behind on my Christmas preperations. I just told my hubby I must go out and get things done this weekend.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  12. Congrats on being able to keep the present a secret--that's no small feat.

As for the clean house, in a few years the kids will help get the house clean before you go on vacation--it's wonderful!!

  13. Kelley, we're not exactly on-target with our Christmas preparations, either. Although Honey Bear and I have thought about presents for each other and our children, we're still woefully behind when it comes to other family members.

Connie, I can't wait for the day when kids can help me with the housework. Of course, I-gots wants to help me now - he's just not very good at it. That inverse relationship between our children's willingness to help and their ability to do so is one of the great ironies of life.

  14. Ward choir totally made me go to your 'about me' page to confirm that meant what I thought it meant =) Yeah! I'm working on finishing up school so I can head home, relax for a day and then actually write for longer than 20 minutes. If I'm lucky draft 1 of the never ending project will be complete by January.

  15. Sierra, if you know what a ward choir is, then I know something about you I didn't know before:) And good luck with that draft. So long as you keep chipping away at it, you'll finish.
